Tori Davies Becomes Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health

Tori Davies, of Saracen Solutions, showed that hard work, experience and perseverance really does pay off when she was awarded Chartered Member status of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health this month.

In order to become Health & Safety royalty – and now known as Tori Davies CMIOSH – Tori had to go through a vigorous process and demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the health and safety profession, through her everyday work, continuing professional development and professional qualifications.

Member status requires approved educational qualifications and experience and all Chartered Members are required to maintain a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record.

Speaking about the process she went through Tori commented: “In order to achieve this standard I have had to complete a two year diploma, a number of years of working within health and safety, a series of written submissions – a bit like an NVQ – and then an interview in front of a panel of professionals – just to give you an idea of importance of the interview, if you fail it then you are not allowed to resubmit for it for a year!

“Having this recognition displays that not only do you have the knowledge and experience but you also have to trade under a code of ethics. This means you are ethical yourself and will not give advice on situations you don’t have any experience within and you won’t oversell, i.e. sell courses or your services for things that are not needed.”

She continued: “You can operate and trade, within the health and safety industry, without approval or even recognition and there are many that do! Having achieved this, I am now able to place myself on the Consultants Register and businesses can be reassured that I have the experience they need for their business and that I do know what I am talking about! There are many ‘so called’ health and safety professionals out there and the only experience they have is from working within their last role for their employer, within one industry and usually on one site. This means their knowledge and experience is limited.

“My experience is very varied, as are the industries I work in. If businesses want the reassurance that they are dealing with a true health and safety professional then they should be looking for the initials CMIOSH after the person’s name.”

Tori worked for over two years in order to achieve her CIMOSH qualification and secure herself chartered status whilst simultaneously establishing her business Saracen Solutions as one of the most knowledgeable, honest and reliable Health & Safety companies working within the Shropshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire areas.
